Japanese speaker needed

Post by sadie » Wed Jul 23, 2008 12:14 am

I spoke tonight to somebody who's setting up a branch in Basingstoke of a Japanese company. He needs to find somebody who can translate occasional items for him, including technical brochures. Can anyone think of somebody?

Mostly from Japanese to English, though some correspondence both ways. I imagine some tutoring on how to bow etc might be helpful as well.

I'd be willing to give it a go. I don't trust my ability to translate into Japanese, but for J->E I should be able to do it, albeit slowly.

Can you get to Basingstoke easily enough? Can you fit this work around your job? I'll post some more details on the work involved as soon as I can.

I can do external contract translating, but can't come into Basingstoke during work hours. If he's after actually employing someone, then no, I can't do it.

I'll try to find out exactly what he's after.

Will this involve any business trips to Japan? Or a permanent position? If so I'll quite happily devote 24/7 to becoming fluent and helping out.

:) Neither yet. He just needs some intermittent work for now.

I've just got a response back from the teacher that a few of our members used to go to. No offence, but Mr Araki's knowledge of Japanese is better than any of us. I'll stay in touch with the guy and keep track of how things go and if he needs any further help.

What do you mean used to go to? Me and Ian still do!

But yes I will agree, Araki's knowledge does kinda beat ours.

What does this company the guy is setting up do? Will he be looking for more staff?

Really? I thought that had petered out ages ago...

It's something to do with networking hardware - routers, bluetooth headsets etc. I'm looking into details.

True, but all valid reasons why not.
