Since Andy says he'd like to start quite soon, I'm going to send the teacher a reply suggesting Monday night. Who else would be on board with a beginner's class on Monday starting in the next few weeks?

Hopefully with some numbers, I can get an answer on prices.
Oh, did I say that out loud?

As for learning Kana, there are books called Learn Hiragana in 57 minutes, and the same for Katakana. 57 minutes is optimistic, but you can learn both in a day.

No idea yet, I'll ask him. It probably depends on the size of the group: for one or two people it can be somebody's home, for four or five we might be better off finding somewhere more public (but still quiet).

I have emailed you as well.

Monday would be great for me and Im happy to provide location if required (Im in Chineham) can probably have upto about 5 people comfortably. Maybe some sort of trial for 5-10 weeks would be a good way to start - what are your thoughts on this?

Since it's beginners... Depending on place and cost, I'd definitely be interested in this.

Okay, I've got some answers.
As promised, here is my proposal for prices:

3 or more students in the class = 10 pounds per person for a one and a half hour lesson.

2 students in the class = 15 pounds per person for a one and a half hour lesson.

1 student in the class = 30 pounds for a one and a half hour lesson.

I recommend an hour and a half for a lesson, but the duration can be up to the students, also the frequency of the lessons can be up to the students. This should help with affordability I hope.

I live in Reading, about 7 minutes walk from Reading West Station. I usually teach from home where I have a dedicated teaching room.

I was going to suggest that if convenient, maybe the students would like to come to me? If that's not possible, it would be possible for me to travel. I would need to come on the train. If I needed to travel, the cost of the return ticket would be 5 pounds 60.
Which do people prefer: travelling to Reading, or to Chineham?

Chimeham for me. I wouldn't want to do all the way to Reading. Plus I dont even know the way and would get lost easy in Reading!

Well I have a conundrum,

I work in basingstoke
Live in Reading pass by Chineham to go home and live 5 mins from the reading address.

I also have a people mover so can move large numbers of people and would therefore be happy to do whatever provides the cheapest cost (£10 each for a group of 3 sounds doable...)

If people want to do Reading that's cool. But it'll be too far for me. I work in Fleet and I live in Alton. Going from Fleet to Reading to Alton would be a real schlep!

I'll be available if it's in Basingrad but Reading is too far. But dont let me stop you, if people have a group for Reading, do it at Reading

Okay, listen up! Hear ye, hear ye! Agreeing on things online is tricky, so we're going to meet the teacher in person. Everybody who's interested in learning should come along:

The Castle, 7pm, Monday 18th June

The assumption is that the lessons would start the following week.

Lessons at the Castle you mean, sadie?

I might be able to make this, without staying too late as it's my AAT exam on the 19th **fills trousers**

Not necessarily. But it's neutral ground at which we can negotiate a settlement to everyone's advantage.
